Darwin, the Ultimate Boys’ Trip: MXGP, Crocs, Waterfalls and Wild Tracks in the Top End
For the first time in 24 years, the FIM Motocross World Championship (MXGP) is tearing back into Australia—and not just for any round. The final event of the global season lands in Darwin this September, and the stakes couldn’t be higher. Titles are on the line. Bikes are getting airborne. And the Top End is putting on a show that’s as wild as the Territory itself.
About ten minutes from Darwin proper is Hidden Valley Raceway, a purpose-built, 1.6km dirt beast with 22 corners, 21 jumps, a 90-metre start straight, and the world’s best riders ready to tackle it. This is motocross with zero chill and full-send energy.
But here’s the kicker: the MXGP of Australia isn’t just a motorsport event—it’s your excuse for a next-level adventure weekend. This is what NT Tourism has cooked up as a boys’ weekend.
What’s Waiting in the Top End?
Road Trip Through Kakadu
Forget your standard coastal drive. Kakadu National Park is the real-deal outback epic—think 4WD trails through ancient escarpments, croc-filled billabongs, and waterfalls you’ll have all to yourselves. It’s World Heritage wilderness that hits like a punch of freedom.

Litchfield Off-Road Madness
If you like your weekends muddy and full throttle, Litchfield National Park delivers. Creek crossings, dirt trails, and natural swimming holes like Florence Falls and Buley Rockhole make it the perfect pre-race warm-up—or post-race cool down.
Croc Encounters That Go Too Far (In a Good Way)
Take a cruise through Yellow Water Billabong for croc spotting… or, if you’ve got serious stones, climb into the Cage of Death at Crocosaurus Cove. That’s right—you, a saltie, and just an acrylic tank between you. Tell your mates. Or don’t. Let them find out when it’s their turn.

Heli Pub Crawl
The NT doesn’t do things halfway. Hop in a chopper and fly pub to pub, touching down at remote watering holes where the beer’s cold, the stories are taller, and the only traffic jam is a mob of wallabies.
Million-Dollar Barra Challenge
Fishing with high stakes? Welcome to the Million Dollar Fish comp. There are barramundi tagged with million-dollar bounties swimming in NT waters—and all you need to enter is a rod, a rego, and a bit of luck. Free to join. Potential to shout your mates beers for life. Details here.
The Main Event: MXGP Australia 2025
From 19–21 September 2025, the motocross world will be watching as the championship wraps in Darwin. There’s more than just bragging rights on the line this September. With the 2025 MXGP of Australia marking the final round of the season, the Top End could witness motocross history. One rider is in reach of a rare Triple Crown—a clean sweep across MXGP, MX2, and Nations titles in a single season. It’s the kind of feat that gets talked about for decades, and you could be there to see it unfold live. No screens. No replays. Just dirt, noise, and the kind of pressure that makes legends.
Whether you’re there for the dirt, the crocs, the barra, or just some proper bloke time—you won’t forget this one.
